Q:  I was wondering what kind of yoga you practice? Also, the classes are two hours long? And, I have a 9 yr old daughter. I’m assuming I can’t bring her with, but just wanted to check.

A:  We practice various styles of hatha yoga based on Astanga yoga and Swami Vivekananda’s Raja yoga principles. It is an integrated practice of asanas, surya namaskars, vinyasa, pranayama and meditation.  Typically our hatha yoga class consists of 90 minutes of asanas (physical postures), 15 minutes of pranayama (breath control) exercises and 15 minutes of dhyana (meditation).  We have mixed levels of students from beginners to advanced.

We encourage students to come with an open and beginners mind and stay focused on the present moment. Two hours goes by really fast. You would not feel it is that long. You can bring your daughter although I admit it is too long for kids. They usually like playing. As long as you can watch your daughter and make sure there is no distraction to the rest of the class and if your daughter likes to stay it is OK to bring her along.

Q: What yoga classes are offered for parents and children? Son is 2 ½. Am asking because we practice yoga at home as well

A: At HTGC yoga, we offer adult yoga classes on Saturdays (8:30-10:30am), Mondays (7-9pm) and Wednesdays (7-9pm).  These are intermediate to advanced level yoga classes for all age groups from teenagers to seniors.  Definitely not for kids and senior citizens.

On alternate Sundays (9-10am) through Vidyalaya (Sunday school) offer two kids yoga classes from ages 5 -8 and ages 9 -15.  During these Sunday school days on alternate Sundays (10-11am) through Vidyalaya offer gentle yoga classes which are more appropriate for seniors.
